Symptoms can vary from being mild stiffness or tightening of the muscles to painful and uncontrollable spasms.

- Increased muscle tone.
- Pain or discomfort.
- Muscle stiffness, causing movements to be less precise and making certain tasks difficult to perform.
- Muscles that feel heavy and are difficult to move.
- Involuntary crossing of the legs (Scissoring).
- Difficulty speaking, eating, and drinking.
- Clonus (Involuntary and rhythmic muscle contractions).
Complications of spasticity
If symptoms of spasticity are left untreated it might lead to the following complications:
- Bone and joint deformities.
- Abnormal posture.
- Contractures (permanent contraction and shortening of muscles and tendons).
- Urinary tract infections (UTI).
- Chronic constipation.
- Pressure sores.
- Frozen joints.
